Dubai suspends Air India Express operations for flying COVID-19 positive passenger

The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority has temporary suspended all operations of Air India Express for flying COVID-19 positive passenger.

The suspension notice from Dubai civil aviation authority stated as following, "We write with reference to the flight No. IX1135 operated by Air India Express on 4 th September 2020, from Jaipur (JAI) to Dubai International Airport, bringing on board a passenger named Kartar Sing Ram Sahay Bairwa Bairwa, Passport No. K6192832, with a POSITIVE test result for COVID 19, issued on 2nd September 2020 by the Suryam Diagnostic Centre, arrived in the aforesaid flight (Seat 4C).

You are aware of our previous intimation made to you by our letter dated 2nd September 2020 for boarding a passenger with a COVID 19 Positive test result, who endangered the other passengers on board and also caused a serious health risk.

Boarding a passenger with COVID 19 Positive test result for the second time, is contrary to and is in violation of the laid down procedures and/or protocols relating to air travel to and from Airports in the Emirate of Dubai, during the Coronavirus SARS Cov. 2 pandemic.

Therefore, all operation of Air India Express to Dubai Airports is temporary suspended, for a duration of fifteen (15) days, effective from 00:01hrs./LT on Friday 18th September 2020 until 23:59hrs/LT of 2nd October 2020.

In addition to the suspension of operation, you will be further notified to pay all the expenditure incurred by the respective authorities for medical services and/or quarantine of any passenger(s) and the other passengers in that flight and also any other expenditure connected thereto.

For the resumption of operation to Dubai Airports, you will be requested to submit a detailed corrective action/procedure implemented to prevent such incidents from occurring again, for this authority review and assessment."
