Following the introduction briefing, the prime and backup crewmembers by turn took their seats in the spacecraft, familiarized with the payloads and operating equipment accommodation in the descent module and habitation compartment, as well as checked functionality of the onboard systems in test mode.

After the check inspection of the spacecraft the crews traditionally visited the Baikonur museums and inscribed their names in the visitor’s book, and visited the historical buildings, in which Yuri Gagarin and Sergey Korolev used to live at Baikonur.

The prime crew of Soyuz MS-17 consists of commander Sergey Ryzhikov (Roscosmos), flight engineer-1 Sergey Kud-Sverchkov (Roscosmos) and flight engineer-2 Kathleen Rubins (NASA). Their backups are Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Novitsky, Pyotr Dubrov and NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei.
